Dunno, I'd have to see if his left index finger has a permanent coffee cup crook.

Problem is, that rigid finger can poke a hole through the side of the foam cup, and then you have a free scupper overboard.

About the beginning of my (Midshipman) time, there were still cups remaining in the General Mess that had no beckets on the side. Maybe this is a later 20th C. syndrome.

Covet thy earned finger.

Nahhh again.

When I rolled out of USTS BAY STATE (ex-USS Doyen (AKA-1)) into USS RICHARD E. KRAUS (DD-849) as 1st LT, there were non-becketed mugs in both. My leading First Division BM1 always chose the un-becketed - best P.O. in the Navy, but he didn't make the hat. A shame.
