12 Volt Smart Car Pot?

It says it is a 12 volt Smart Car pot. I am not sure how it is a Smart car pot but it does look interesting.

"
This 12 Volt kettle has several unusual features. The kettle itself is cordless and sits inside the holder which is connected to a 12 Volt supply.
When switched on, the kettle lights up to indicate that it is working correctly. The holder can be permanently or temporarily mounted using the supplied bracket and plugs into any 12 Volt lighter-type socket.
Specification

  • Automatic boil-dry protection
  • Automatic low-voltage protection
  • Spill-resistant lid
  • Capacity: 20 fluid oz (0.6L)
  • Power consumption: approx. 10 amps
  • Will boil 2 large mugs of water in approx. 10-15 minutes"

Too bad the power port's only rated 5 amps. NCC1701 here blew his fuse, probably by plugging in a 90W (7A) laptop.

If you try this, you may be tempted to upgrade a fuse... that may be risky depending on the wiring scheme.

Well, it's working on the same principal as a hot water heater. They use a small, efficient heat source to slowly warm a large tank over a longer time. In this case, it's really needed because a battery/alternator can only generate so much energy so quickly before it warps it's plates or burns out.
