Isn't the Smart a bit too big to fit into the cache container? I've heard of a 6 pack of beer in a cooler but really .....?

I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one who jumped to that conclusion when I saw this thread listed.

Might take mine letterboxing if we get back into that again, but as we don't own a GPS yet, probably not.

Wow, Sylvan, I think you and I are the only ones in the US that have letterboxed. It's a lot of fun, and I enjoy making the stamps and getting ink on my fingers.

As for geocaching, I have moved on to EarthCaching. Much more educational, but some of them are really out there!

It's neat to use a smart for the milage to get to the cache, but I'm worried about its off-road capabilities!

It was really fun when we were going MTB'ing more often. There are actually quite a few just in our own neck of the woods, hidden way out on trails that I couldn't really get to by walking (I have stupid feet that self-destruct after a short amount of time hiking, but biking was pretty much ok).
Hi-five for letterboxing!

This is the site I use for letterboxing:

Letterboxing North America

I presume you use the same one, or is there another?

The letterboxes I have gone to are not found using a GPSr. You have to use your compass, paceing, and observation skills.

Yep, same site. I had meant that I don't have a GPS to do Geocaching yet. Most of the letterboxes around here don't seem to need a compass to find them, although maybe that's what I get for finding ones made by the same people in the same town. "wandaandpete" leave very straightforward directions, not so much clues, to find their boxes in my town... *lol*

I've gone geocaching in my smart (it's a Travel Bug also.) The one thing I'm finding though is that it is very difficult to remain inconspicious when driving/parking the smart. Everytime I stop, everybody stares, and often people come up and chat. Very difficult to be stealthy. I now find myself parking my smart away from the GZ search site so it draws attention away from my search activities so I can make the find, sign the log, and rehide the cache. It's all fun though.

Actually it sounds like the car would work in your favor. They are looking at your car and not you. Perfect!
