Cargo Light

I read on a post somewhere (can't remember where), that someone was looking for a solution to not having a light in the cargo area. Yesterday I was at an Ace Hardware store, and I ran across this circular LED light than runs off batteries. It comes in silver or white, and is basically a ring, with LED lights inserted all the way around. Comes with adhesive pads on it for mounting, and cost $9.95. I got a silver one, and peeled off the backing on the adhesive strips last night, and pressed it into place on the plastic trim on the top-center, just inside the rear glass. Pressed the button, and it produces a LOT of pure, white light, making it really easy to see anything inside the cargo area. If anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like, PM me and let me know. I'll take some photos and either post them or send them to whoever is interested.

P.S. It's 87 degrees here right now, much hotter inside the car, I'm sure, and the adhesive on the light has already failed. Will have to get some industrial strength velcro and reattach it.

You're right about those adhesives and hot weather. I picked up something similar. I plan on getting velcro, too.

My wife says that Jo-Anns Fabrics (or I suppose other sewing centers also) have some industrial strength Velcro. It comes in bulk, but once it's stuck, it stays stuck! Of course, I never tested it any "HOT" cars, though, so we'll see what happens.

3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fasteners

I've found that 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fasteners work much better than even industrial-strength Velcro. I live in southern Arizona and I couldn't get the Velcro to stick for more than a day or two. I'm now using the 3M stuff for my ScanGauge, a 3-outlet 12V adapter, and two LED lights in the cargo area. After more than a week it hasn't budged, even on the really slick plastic under the glovebox. It comes in either a roll or precut 3-inch strips. I got mine at Target.

I used a round Dot It to light up a backyard shed. I'm not sure about all of them but the one I used has a mechanical switch that clicked on when I pressed the body. This linear on has a touch sensitive switch that's kind of cool. The linear Dot It is narrow enough to not be intrusive and IMO it fits the space better.

So far so good for the velcro mount. I used a product that was made specifically for automotive vinyl. I made sure the surface was clean first. It's only been in the upper 60's in So. Cal. so we'll see.

We've been through a summer now and I'm wondering if anyone has an update as to how their velcro mounts faired thus far?
