No plastic!

Bob,

Neat idea but to be truly green we should be using paper, not plastic bags. So now we need one of those folding partition things to fit back there and keep the paper bags in place. Or maybe just cardboard boxes to make it even more green.

2nd thought - if we all used the string carrier bags as they do in other parts of the world this would work fine, plus save lots of plastic and paper bags.

Most of those plastic bags are recyclable. The others are ... well, my dog and I wouldn't leave home without them.

Who decides what is "truly green"? Is this an elected position and can I vote for these people who are the judges, or is it kind of like being a judge at the county fair and you have to volunteer? Why is being "truly green" something other people want me to be anyway? The standard for being truly green is a moving target - how do we know what the standard is this month? Is it posted somewhere on a website so I can keep up? My plastic walmart bags are recyclable - so they don't count for "truly green" points when I recycle them? Is this kind of like using S&H Green Stamps back in the 70's - do you get special stamps to buy stuff with when you're truly green? And speaking of the 70's, back then the media was filled with stories about the coming ice age - was the media wrong then? Or is it wrong now? What about when the ice age ended in North America thousands of year ago - were the dinosaurs driving SUV's and is that why they had the ice age ended? If global warming is causing the arctic ice to melt, is global cooling causing the antarctic ice to be so large - look it up - its record setting right now. Much of Europe uses nuclear power plants - why don't people who want us to be "truly green" push for nuclear power plants when they eliminate coal mining and they don't have carbon emissions?? All of this "truly green" stuff is very confusing - please be patient with me, I'm trying hard to understand.

Pauly

Hot button issue with me also... but I try to overlook the occasional eco references here because the politics and religion debates get too emotional and create enemies out of what should be friends with common conversation point..the Smart Car

Even China is banning 'em ;)
http://www.thedailygreen.com/environ...-bags-47010907 They will probably be replaced with the biodegradable types as time passes, so I imagine those types of holders will still be useful.

In any event, we will probably get one of those foldable containers that holds any kind of grocery bags upright and keeps stray items from rolling about.

I found that one and a few other similar ones all over the web actually, just searched under Auto Organization or Accessories and saw them available through all kinds of stores. You can probably find it at Target, Stacks and Stacks and any Auto specialty shop or organization/home store.

I didn't want to buy one until I knew the exact measurements of the hatch floor and if the add-on hatch cover shade thingy or the one with the net divider Smart will sell takes up any area.
