A properly filled brown paper grocery bag will happily stand on its bottom (and with the compulsory carrot tops sticking out) and not fall over in normal driving. The dimensions of the smart trunk deck are such that nine standard bags will fit at a time. I'm not sure that there is any more of a problem carrying bags in a smart as in a Ford.

In any event, we will probably get one of those foldable containers that holds any kind of grocery bags upright and keeps stray items from rolling about.

Got the one shown at Wal Mart for 15 bucks has some Velcro on the bottom to keep it from sliding folds up small to tuck behind the seat nylon very light handles let you carry stuff found it to be very practical.

I bought the smaller one too. This was the best price I could find. You do have to air it out for a few days when you get it.

I used a plastic file box that is open on the bottom. I placed Velcro strips perpendicular to 4 horizontal ribs that hold the box together. This makes it possible to quickly remove the box for other puposes. I was going to dump the box anyway and Velcro costs just a buck or two. There I keep all kinds of items such as Cd's, hat, etc.

Got the large one today. Very well made and very stinky too! It must be the glue they used on the bottom because the cordova nylon nor the webbing could be the source of the smell. If I ever get my smart I'll be ready to go grocery shopping. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, great product!

My Solution

I wanted part to be rubber for large objects and some for bag storage......so my solution was a storage unit from caselogic that velcro's, and a smaller mat to cover the rest. I have been very happy with this. I have a pic but could not figure out how to post it....and was to lazy to really look
