I haven't - but with a Cradlepoint Personal WiFi Hotspot you can use your cellphone with a data plan and have your own mobile (even wearable) 802.11b/g hotspot. I use it when I travel and it works well (I use it with my Blackberry).

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads up, I'm checking it out. The coverage map is not too shabby at all. Since I don't have cell phone and have no interest in it, this interests me. Their $29 plan seems a bit stingy with only 1 GB/month. Then again, do the big files at home or hotel. I hope someone who has tried it out will give it a review.

I just had Autonet installed and I love it! I've only had it for about a week, but so far it's been great. I've been using it mostly to stream Pandora to my ipod and so far haven't had any connectivity issues. Personally for me, it was a cheaper and easier to use than Cradlepoint. With Cradlepoint I had to buy the data card, buy an adapter to power it up and monthly it was about $59. Plus I'm not super techy and it just seemed like a pain to set up. Instead I bought Autonet and took it to a shop and they installed it for me. I'd definitely recommend checking them out!

The technology on these mobile wifi adapters is changing really, really fast. Here's a new very slick one - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/07/te...8cir&emc=cirb1. - sheureka

For my purposes, I still like the Autonet Mobile. Although, on the downside, I found it requires a one year contract.

Oldish thread, but I'm looking into this again. The range claimed surrounding the car is 150 feet. Anyone know of any problems using one of these devices with the car shut down, if the router were wired to be on unless switched off? How much drain on the battery, for example. Would 12-16 hours drain an Optima 34R?

I'd like the mobile WiFi, don't want a Cell, and wonder if the connection could be used indoors with the car parked nearby. That way I could cancel my hardwired cable ISP and not pay for both. Is this possible?
