Using your cell phone as WIFI router

So, I stumbled across this cool software, mainly for windows mobile 6. But might work on other phones. you would have to check the site.

I have an ATT Tilt, IE HTC brand running win mobile 6. Unfortunately I forgot my charger and thus I have to plug phone in when battery gets low.

But the software does monitor your battery lift, and how hot it is. It will shut down if you get over say 45D. I have yet to get over 37C on the phone. But this is what DSLreports calculated my speed at.

900ish down
350ish up.

Not bad for cellphone. but that way you can use your laptop and not be resticted. it is quite fast.

Here is the link.

WMWifiRouter - Welcome

Enjoy, hope this helps a lot of you. Just make sure you have your AC wall plug in for your phone, or you get only about 30 min of surfing. With, I am guessing unlimited almost.

Eric.

The downside is it is only for Windows Mobile only.

Unfortunately, you are right. I just got it working strictly thru my USB via microsofts active sync software. Now, it is wifi without broadcast since it is direct link. I am now getting 1100 down and 350 up. Also, I don't have to worry about someone sharing my phone while I am using it. And my phone stays charged. Complete security and surfing for longer then 30min.

I am sure there is other software like this. Just have to look. Good luck.

As much as my wife surfs at work on her phone, unlimited is the only way to go. Or why have it. Unlimited text and broadband.

I like the concept. I currently use NetShare on an iPhone to accomplish the same thing, and 3G speeds are similar 761/303. Technically not permitted by AT&T and Apple pulled the NetShare app, but an official solution is said to be coming soon.

You can hack nearly any phone with internet access to do this. There used to be an app for the iPhone called NetShare, and it did this for you. Plug in your iPhone to your laptop, and bam! internet on the go. Apple remove this app... then relisted it and now has been remove permanently. The only other way for me to do it now is to Jailbreak it, which I don't want to do. Needless to say I was too lazy at the time to download it and kicked my self because I didn't

I am kind of wondering. It says that the Itouch is qualified.

iPod Touch

Some users have reported for correct operation you need the iPod 2.0 firmware, and on your device need to set Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN -> Power Mode to Best Performance
wonder if it is doable with an iphone
