My kids gave me the Pioneer Inno XM receiver for Christmas in 2006 and I have used it extensively both in carry-around mode and with my home stereo and in a variety of cars. Although the car kit provides the ability to keep the unit charged while driving, the downside of temporary installation is an adapter for the Inno, the button antenna, a power plug, and lots of wires strung across the cockpit. What has worked best for me in my MINI is using the Belkin headphones (the ones with the antenna built into the headband) and an audio cable connected to the AUX input. I just put the unit in the cup holder and place the headphones on the seat or on the dash. The Inno automatically routes the audio signal to the headphone jack when it senses a connection. The sound is awesome and I get about 4 to 5 hours on a charge on the Inno. It makes it easy to carry all the evidence of a sat radio away with me when I park and to use one subscription in many cars.

It would be the power and antenna connections for most XM radios that would be the problem. We would have to have the antenna and power wired through the dash somehow. I have ordered a scangauge II, and my mom send me a Garmin nuvi 200W and I have to figure out where to put those and my XM....

I know that my radio has a power adapter that you can hard wire in (basically an extra cig lighter adapter) but I really dont want to drill any holes. I dont want to void any warranty or make it a non-selling point. Any opinions?

You can use a power outlet adapter to make more taps.
See http://www.realtruck.com/php/waterma...006.wct&id=824

The Pioneer Inno is battery powered which is different than most XM or Sirius base model receivers in that it has power and an antenna built in.

Andywert,
Last night, I saw this part at Walmart but I don't recall the price. I'm pretty sure it was under $5. Thanks, Regina

Yes, I have my antenna mounted on the dash right against the window and it works fine. Just velcro or use some double sided foam tape and it should hold nicely.

It's ridiculous that smart doesn't offer a head unit that is XM or Sirius (or both) capable. Just about EVERY manufacturer does now. I had a '95 Scion xA that got XM through the head unit and it didn't cost any more than the smart. If Scion could do it 3 years ago, smart should be able to do it today. Add-on units look add-on, no matter how you do them. I suppose you could put it in the glove box and hard wire it so you didn't have a cord running down to the power point/cigarette lighter, but you STILL have an add-on unit and would have to open the glove box every time you want to change the channel.

double stick tape and pull teh wires behind teh unit. Infact, they offer a serius add-on right now. Allison said they will offer a sirus/nav head unit.
