OUCH! Someone hit my smart car!!

My smart car was hit yesterday while I was traveling in the Roundabout at Morse Road & St.Rt.62 in New Albany.

The other driver hit me in the left rear quarter panel and rear tire. Luckily, I only got a VERY minor scratch in the plastic fender, only about 1.5" long and less than 1/4" deep and some scuffs on the tire. [I am going to take it in to have it checked out further though since I was hit near the engine.]

The impact did move me sideways as he hit me with his BIG Diamanti! His car didn't fair as well as smart in the crash! His right side front fender cracked almost 1/2 way across the front of the car, his lights on that side were broken and ripped off the car!

I was truly impressed, and thankful, with how little damage was done to my "little gem". The car really is TUFF!

Sorry to hear, glad you're OK!

Interesting that the other car suffered more, our little guys must be pretty tough! Suspect the engine is pretty well protected, but best to have them go over everything for any hidden damange. Don't know what might be behind the panel that could be damaged if it deflected enough, pinched wier, who knows..

That's too bad - you have a great looking car. What was the other driver's excuse - didn't see you because the car's so small? Anyway, good luck with the repairs and look forward to seeing you and that sharp 450 at our next meeting.

OUCH!

Got a call from the other guys adjuster and she will be out on Thursday to "check out" my smart. Guess I have to do this before AI can take it to the dealer to have it checked out.? Got a cal into Kevin at Easton smart to find out where I need to take the car.

I was surprised too that my smart faired much better than the bigger car did from the accident. Really glad too.

The typical, it was a young kid and he wasn't paying attention. I caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of my eye just before he hit me. Looked like he was on a cell phone!!!

I do have concerns about any repairs/parts that might be needed on my smart, especially since it is a 2006 model, like where to get a replacement back fender panel for it? But guess that isn't really my problem except I don't want to be without my car until someone locates the parts.

I am looking forward to the next gathering of smart car owners as wel. Just let me know when and where.

If you need info on parts call Ron Gaus at asmartcar.com - Don't be Foolish on Smart Car Choices (314) 583-9935 or PM him (RGAUS) on here. He's got the info on the 450s.

Remember that YOU get to choose where your car is repaired, not the insurance company (that is law). Let the other company look at it but you are not required to use the shop they recommend, pick your shop and the insurer will have to honor the bill.

Sad to hear about your incident, but glad you and the "lil gem" faired well. You might want to think about installing a 'bad boy" horn. It's worth the money. We installed ours last week after someone almost backed into me at the swimming pool. Hoping to see you soon.

Glad you are all right, sad in deed.

Inattentive young and not so young drivers are a problem. I sometimes wonder with all the gadgets to entertain them in the cars / vans / SUVs, they grew up with, if they have a different mindset about "in the car" habits.

Not to show my age, but I think I learned a lot about driving, finding my way around, and paying attention to outside the car, from all those family road trips stuck in the back seat for hours on end w/o a gadget in sight (back in the day).

Nowadays I am amazed at how tuned out kids are to their auto travels pre driving age.

Hope 450 parts are not an issue for your 450s speedy recovery.
