Smart 2.0

Has anyone done the Smart 2.0 software update? I'd like to hear comments from those who've had it done.

I suspect almost everyone on here has had it done - shifting is much smoother, if you have options they'll give you a bigger battery, the paddles now work for shifting without moving the floor lever, well worth your time. - sheureka

Agreed with sheureka - the insta-paddles are nice and the shifting is a bit cleaner. Oh - and there's less "squatting" at stop lights.

And you might get a new, heavier duty battery.

I had mine done at my 10K service. To me, it doesn't seem a huge difference. Except, as John_H noted, the squatting thing is practically gone now. The shifting may be smoother too, but that improvement is not dramatic. I almost always drive paddles, so being able to activate them without throwing the shifter over isn't a big deal for me either. For the most part, I hardly notice the change. But, it's free. One caution, it is apparently not reversible.

yeah, get the 2.0 and you get to run 30 amp heated mirrors ALL the time. that has to be a drain on the altenator, and ergo, mileage. when the shop put in my bigger battery, they broke the vent tube (sulfuric gas) and created a major squeak (foam block cover). Lets not even address the big scratch on the pass side trid (from the tech hitting it with the battery)........

As far as I can tell, the alternator turns all the time so if it is charging or not doesn't make much difference, as for the scratch and the broken tube, squeek etc. sounds like you should be taling to the service manager, not us.

You neglected to mention if the car ran better or not after the update. I did not notice much change after the update, but I had a Pure without the paddle shifters.

Believe me, the dealer heard (and fixed) everything. I personally did not feel a difference, as i had a '09 passion, and it was delivered with the 2.0 upgrade. it went in for the recall (battery and bridge). the bridge is the item that keeps the mirrors on all the time. yes, the alt turns. but i am sure it has a different load (resistance) if it running the mirrors or not. if so, then more resistance=more power drain=less fuel economy.
