how does one know if the battery is to be upgraded? Is there a thread for that? I just had my 04/08 smart 2.0 update done, my letter said the battery was to be done, but they didn't do it?

Ask the Smart Center who did the work why, perhaps. You should be informed about specific options you didn't have as well as build-date dependencies.

I don't know if the threads discussing the battery were 100% certain about the conditions that called for a replacement.
