Baker Motors Charleston Delivery Experience

I am expecting to take delivery from Baker Motors after the first of the year! Can those of you who have already taken delivery of your Smart from Baker comment on their delivery process including such things as any "extra" fees charged above sticker, etc. so I can be prepared? Thanks!

nothing you should be worried about,
things they will try to sell you
1. Tire and wheel insurance for $480.00 what this does since our cars do not have spares is if you have a flat they will repair up to the first $100.00 and also will replace wheel if bent free of charge. I decided against this since State Farm will cover wheel from road damage
2. 100K 4 year extended warranty, I think was like 1200 dollars for the $200.00 per visit detuctable
3. back door fees were about $250.00 or so cann't remember but were inline with recent car purchases.

Something I suggest is window tint, you will want it from day one. don't know what they charge. Local people here in Myrtle Beach were at $120.00

I paid a little more for an almost fully loaded passion when I picked mine up in Jacksonville last March 1st. Sounds like you're in the ballpark.

My passion coupe, while not fully loaded, came in as follows:

15,200.00 (Including my few options and a $645.00 destination charge)
214.00 (floor mats, and cargo cover which I wanted and requested, so no surprise here)
462.42 sales tax
399.00 Dealer Administrative Fee (Doc Fee or whatever some call it)
69.00 Registration Fees (Tag)
16,344.42 (Total)

I also opted for the Extended warranty, at a cost of $995.00. It brought my warranty up to 60 months/60,000 miles.

I was pleased with my purchase experience, and have enjoyed my car completely in this past year. Would do it again without question.

Happy motoring!

Wayne

(Oops, meant to mention that my dealer wasn't Baker Motors, but the smart center in Charlotte, NC. Didn't mean to be off-topic, just adding some more pricing info for the original poster.)

Our sale tax is capped here in SC at 300. The Processing Fee at 499 did seem a little high to me.

I was on the way to the nearby PepBoys on Savannah Hwy. to look into some mud flaps and noticed 3 or 4 smarts there at Baker. I wonder if this recession is hurtin' sales. On the other hand they are probably all gone today.

I think most are sold, i called about some around November, about 11 were there at the time and they told me all were sold but 1. I guess it looks better to be busy than to have 1 car on the lot.

True.
Take note that a small breakfast gathering, in two weeks, of the smart CARolinas club (SC & NC smart owners) will be discussing a possible mountainous get-together in NC in the fall.
