Just got my first DDE update...

So, it appears they quoted 12-14 months wait time from the dealership in Charlotte is a tad off. I ordered my smart car on May 7, 2008 and now have my first update as to possible delivery...October to December 2009. That leaves about 17-19 months range.

Just in case anyone else is curious and they haven't changed their estimated dates.

We took delivery the end of May and our wait was 12 months.

Not sure when you got a 12-14 month quote but smart demand is up as the cars are being delivered and more are seen on the road.

17-19 months seems proper as I recall CLT quoting 18+ months some time ago. I think that the DDE is dealer/region (driven by regional demands) specific and thus can be + or - the national average.

and the DDEs tend to move up a little as the months go by. Its not unreasonable by this time next year you could be June - August 09

Yeah, I reserved the same day I test drove. Ben was the one who stated that the Charlotte region was a 12-14 month wait while Atlanta was around 18 months and Texas was up to 22 months. I don't necessarily care, just gives me more time to save up, but for others it might be nice if they gave them a roughly more accurate time.

Mine has now moved to Jul 09 - Sept 09. It has jumped 3 months in about 2 weeks. Hopefully that rate keeps up!

Estimated Wait Times

We try super hard to always have the most accurate information about wait times here at the dealership, but it is definetly like trying to shoot at a moving target. For example, right now we have about 525 reservations here in Charlotte and we get about 30 cars per month so that equates to about 17.5 months, give or take. We have been working closely with smart USA to get more cars for the Charlotte market, but to no avail...we'll keep trying so that you all can get your cars as soon as possible.

Oh, I know it is out of your hands, and actually even though my first post said it was way off, as the time has moved forward on the DDE, you are closer to right. So I was told 12-14 month range and it is already bumped up now to 14-16 month range. You never know what may happen! Hopefully what DOESN'T happen is the scale goes further away...
