Swapping Horn

Has anyone in West-Central GA successfully swapped out the stock horn for a more robust one? I tried following the instructions on the Forum, but either I am too timid or cannot follow instructions.

raytmercer, I have swapped the horn out. Its not too terribly difficult. There are excellent instructions here: Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

If you have any problems, let me know. briandewitt at gmail dot com

The installaition isn't hard but if you have large hands, getting in there can be a challenge. I found that it's easier to just remove the front of the car to install mine... only took about 30 min.

If either of you are coming to the dragon event and would like to do the install there I'll be happy to help you. Just let me know.

Has anyone tried removing the driver side headlight assembly to access the horn? Almost seems that would be the way to go.

Installation isn't hard at all if you just pop the front end of the car off. It's a good learning experience. I think I'm down to about 10 minutes for removing the front end by myself. After that, it is extra easy to put that horn in...whatever horn you may choose.

Jwight - you're going to have to remove the front end to get the headlight out. Once the front end is off - pulling the headlight would be just extra work you don't need to do.

The front end does come off pretty easily. There are good removal instructions on both Evilution.com and FQ101.com. (I did put my horn in through the wheel well only because it was winter. It's possible to do it that way but access is way better with the front off.)

I purchased a Sebel (sp?) compact air horn and paid the dealer $50 to do the install. It fit exactly where the OEM horn was and was an easy swap out. There is a big difference in sound intensity. Well worth the cost to do it. Dan Hall

Bill, if you think we'll have time amidst all the hilarity, I can bring my horn and tools along.
