Homelink install Hawaiian Style

First of all I would like to thank the few that have already posted info on this forum doing the homelink install.. I am going to add a few more pictures and info for all to see.. Give me some time to download pictures and get them all on this thread..

First thing I did different is I took the whole front headliner piece out. Sorry I did not take pictures of that step. It is very easy to remove. First remove the dome light..Next lower both visors then remove the two screws that hold the one side in place, next remove the one screw from the clip (this is the part that the visor clips into. After removing these screws the parts will not just fall out you must pop them out carefully. Just apply light downward pressure and they will pop out. Once you have these all out on both sides then there are 4 more small screws holding the piece up.. Once these are removed you can now grab the upper corner cloest to the panaramic roof area and slightly lift out and pull down ever so slight... You will hear it snap out then very carefully slide it towards the windsheild.. be careful not to let it drop...you will need to unplug the wire harness that is pluged into the pass airbag indicator light.. This unclips very easily.. Now that you have the part free move into the house or shop to make this mod even easier to work on. Working on a bench is so much easier than trying to do this in the car.

Click on the link above to view my install...the only real difference is that I removed my headliner and I used heavy duty double stick mounting tape to hold my Homelink in place..

I hope this help others..

Aloha, Tim

Great post and pictures, can't wait to get going on my own installation.
One question, how did you attach the buttons on cabin side of the headliner, via the tabs or some other way?
Thanks, Rich

Timini, I dont know if that double sided tape will hold when the car has been out in the Hawaiian sun.. I use that tape for just about every thing but hot glue might have been better I think.
Other than that Its really nice. did you extract the home link from a clunker or did you purchace it?.. new...

got the homelink off ebay..color is beige..it matches really close to the color of the smart interior.. paid 15.00... As for the double stick tape I used it because this is the same automotive 3m tape that Boris uses at Smart madness to hold the side skirts on the body kit.. My have been on for months and I have been in the hot sun all day and no problem..if anything as they warm up or get hot they stick better.. Try it you will see.

Aloha, Tim

P.S. you can always talk to Boris also..

This tape actually is just like the 3m automotive tape as it heats up it holds better.. Talk to Boris at Smart Madness he will tell you the same.. Stuff works great..

Aloha, Tim
