Reservation in hand & still awaiting a smartcar dealership

I hope Smart brings us a dealership soon before some other innovative entrepreneur steps into this vacuum like Mr. Shai Agassi's Better Place electric car network!

Does anyone know of or have any leads on the politics behind getting a smartcenter here in the State of Hawaii??

Somewhere in this thread is a mention of Hawaii: Smart refuses to sell to Alaskans!

Basically same deal as Alaska; no plans for a dealership so no orders for people there (how did you get your reservation processed?) I'm assuming the additional transportation costs are what's holding them back but that's just a guess.

Penske is looking for a spot on Oahu currently. Plans are to try to have it open by the 3/4 of this year, but if not then no later than the 1/4 of '10. You'll just have to take the Super Ferry over from Maui.

I got mine from a dealer on Ebay, and shipped it here in Honolulu.
I just love it. I got a refund from Smart USA, the check came back 2 weeks after canceling.

I just bought a Smart cabrio in Denver and am shipping it to Honolulu at the end of September. I am still keeping my reservation in case I decide to buy a second one (if ever we get a Hawaii dealer).

I just joined this forum. We bought a 2009 Passion coupe from Beverly Hills Mercedes-Benz, and had it shipped here to Oahu this month. We have had the car here for a week, and it's a blast---look for me or my wife in a white coupe in the Kapolei area. We are concerned also about the service for the car....we will eventually need some help with repairs or service. We shipped the car here because we found articles from 2008 that Smart would open a Smart Center here in Oahu, but it has not happened yet. If anyone hears more about a "real" service center, please post here--we will be needing routine service some day. Meanwhile, our Smart is stored in our golf cart garage...try that with an SUV! Ha!
