Iowa Meet n' Greet (Ideas)

Hey folks, so I've though of an Idea for Iowa's First Smart Rally. We could either Start in Ankeny. Then drive down to Gray's Lake in Des Moines. Have a picnic on a Sunday afternoon.

Or another idea is to Start in Meet in Ames, then drive west to Ledges State Park and picnic/tailgate in the park on a Mid September afternoon.

I'm not sure where all of the Iowa Smart Owners live...so I'm trying to think central Iowa. Anyone else have ideas?

I personally like the Ledges thing. Probably more kid friendly too.

Hey how are ya?
This sounds really great. I live in Ottumwa. This has to be on a weekend for sure, I would have to be coming in from Omaha, where I am currently on assignment. (A week's notice would also be definitely helpful.)
Thanks for helping get this started!!

I'm glad to hear positive responses. Looks like the ledges idea is the choice. I am not sure when they close the park to driving traffic. I'll start to look all of that up and then make a plan.

More than likely this will occur on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Any preference?

Well I went to Ledges Park yesterday, bad news...The road going through the park is closed from the early spring flooding that occurred. There are downed trees and mud caking the roadways. So that idea is out until the spring possibly.

Does anyone have any other ideas for a weekend Rally. I can try to think of something we could do in Des Moines for a good convoy/eating. Would most perfer to Meet, Drive, then eat?

There's always Brookside as a starting point. Is there a "car" place in Ankeny where we could meet?

Brookside Park in Ames, good idea for a starting point. Then we drive down to Ankeny and goto Sonic Drive-In, we can grab some lunch, talk shop and then do whatever.

Sounds fun to me!

Does Sonic have a car night? Or would a weekend be better?
