Sticker Shock!!

I went for my 10,000 mile oil change today, I was shocked to find out how much it was!!
I paid $74 to have that done... I had thought that it was a service thing that they took care of the first time. (My last new car had free oil changes for the first year, so I assumed the same would happen this time.) Boy, howdy, was I wrong!
The oil itself totalled $41 or nearly $11 per quart! When I got to thinking about it though, when you only change the oil every 10,000 miles, it sort of makes up for the exorbinant sounding total, as you don't have to repeatedly go to the shop and have the oil changed every 3 to 5 thousand miles. After thinking about that for nearly the whole day, I also realized the price in relationship to the previous thought was darn cheap.
Anyhow, I just wanted to give y'all a heads up on the price so we wouldn't have to either scrape you off the ceiling, nor off of the ground. (LOL)
So, remember your checkbook!!

Yes, it's a very simple 15 minute job, no jacks or lifts required. Add about $9 for the OEM filter from Mitsubishi and $22 for Mobil 1 synthetic oil and you're done.

Was an oil change the only service that the dealer provided? Nothing about a cabin air filter and other inspections?

yeah, nothing else. I had wondered about it. I was thinking they would check over everything on the car, you know, like a preventative maintenance check. But, nope, none of that. They had told me it would "take a long time" to change my oil. I had to believe them, having had no experience with this car before. (I know how long it takes to change oil, my dad's a master mechanic who made sure I wouldn't ever be ripped off. He didn't know about this car though.)

No, Andrea didn't give any freebies, she said the company is kinda funny about that. But she said she would see what she could do, and would get back to me by email.

Additional info!

Here's something else I discovered over the weekend: (because I had my oil changed at 9750 miles) After you get to the 10,000 mile mark, the dashboard graphics display, when starting the car, a flashing wrench and also the mileage will be gone... momentarily. each 100 miles over the 10,000 mile mark will show as a negative number. i.e. -100, -200, etc. in the place where the mileage usually shows. Not to worry though, you mileage will reappear in a couple of moments!! (It's just irritating.) I will have to find out if they charge extra to reset the darn thing!!

They should have reset it when they changed the oil. Take it back and remind them that they forgot to do it. The only time they wouldn't reset it is when you have your oil changed by time and were only 1/2 way through the count down... meaning you should get the oil changed at the mileage interval or once a year at a minium.

It takes < 20 minutes to change the oil in the driveway.
