Nearly all the particles in motor oil come from the friction of moving parts (crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, rings, gears, lifters, etc.). The particles are usually very small, so small that they are not trapped in the filter. They still do significant damage as they travel through the engine carried by the motor oil. By using powerful magnets, you can clean the motor oil of these particles. This can not only increase the life of the engine, it can mean a significant increase in the effectiveness of the oil.
