Large tractor trailers with Smart cars and insignias on the side are
stopping in over 50 U.S. metropolitan areas and Washington D.C., some
local events, universities, and retail outlets.
Potential buyers can now touch, see and drive the Smart ForTwo. The tour's trailers have four Smart cars apiece.
The trailers are like portable Smart dealerships and come with interactive demonstrations and virtual presentations.
The trailers also have the tridion cell safety cage for your inspection.
Smart enthusiasts will now be able to appreciate the Smarts qualifications and advantages. However, to the best of our knowledge these states will be smart-less…Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming, and no word on Puerto Rico as of yet.
Selling the Smart in the United States is a significant challenge and substantial gamble for the manufactures and the bona fide groups, (UAG and smart USA) now involved with the project. However, according to Joe Guy Collier of the Detroit Free Press it’s "Not quite the same" and
Mr. Schembri, president of Smart USA, might have been stretching the truth a bit, in at least one of his pitches for the new Smart ForTwo. a lot of potentially Smart enthusiasts will have to either travel great distances to purchase a Smart, if in fact they can find one and of course there are other issues to consider.
