Advanced orders for 30,000 Smarts |
Now on the other hand Martin Eberhard, the CEO of Tesla Motors would be bored out of his mind and out of business with a $99.00 deposit.
His required deposit for the Tesla Roadsters was a slick $100,000 which guaranteed those lucky 100 folks, one of the first Roadsters off his production line in 2007.
Martin Eberhard, the CEO of Tesla Motors, reported earlier this year that "all 100 are gone," which means those hundred individuals that have paid the 100,000 bucks upfront for their Roadsters and should be driving them.
EBay's Jeff Skoll, whose web site sells things that have already been sold all the time, put his money down. Wait a second, this is 2007!
Original plans called for the Tesla Roadster to be delivered early in 2006. That shifted to late this year, and now the company says the first 50, not 100 Tesla Roadster will be built and delivered to customers before March of 2008. I wonder if Jeff used his Paypal account to buy his Tesla.
Oh yes, Tesla Motors co-founder Martin Eberhard is truly out of business and has been ousted from Tesla Motors. If I was a betting person I would take the over on the Tesla's March launch.
GM has spent 3 times the money marketing and has released more information about the Volt, than has ever come from Daimler about their smart.

Even though the lithium batteries General Motors themselves stated they need to power it haven't been invented yet and but Chevy promises the Volt will be ready for public sale in 2010.
Regrettably, an original phrase is approaching the automotive industry.
It is called “Vapor-Vehicle” design; it isn't an entirely negative terminology and is a by-product of Vaporware, a term used mostly in the computer industry.

However, it can apply to other products. On occasion vaporware was the consequence of over-optimism on the part of a well meaning corporation, and may possibly come about after a long wait, sometimes years.
With oil at $100 a barrel the “Vapor-Vehicle” era is upon us.
Every upper management person involved in the Smart project should have known the cars potential and that inventories of 20,000 cars would not be ample. However, for reasons known only to those in charge, they are not prepared for, or willing to meet our demands for these types of cars.
Sadly, the reality about the Smart is, as it was in Canada, the 2008 Smart Car is sold out long before it gets to any Smart USA dealerships showroom.
Just like our cousins to the North the supplies of the Smart will be hit, and miss for several years.
So for now one can only imagine how many Smart cars really could be and hopefully will be, sold to the American public.
