2008 Smart Prices and Specs |
|
It was not until 2004 when DaimlerChrysler first presented the Smart Car to the Canadian market that the Smart ForTwo officially joined the North American auto market as a unique alternative to typical vehicles for sale in the region. The prices are for the pure and passion coupe and the passion cabriolet.
In just a few years, sales of the Canadian version of the Smart ForTwo substantially exceeded all of its sales targets, by nearly four times expected sales, selling over 10,000 Smart Cars. In fact, in only its first year in Canada, the Smart ForTwo outsold nearly all other niche, micro-mini vehicle, including the popular Volkswagen Beetle and BMW Canada's Mini Cooper.
Like its first introduction to the North American car market, the potential for Smart purchases in the U.S.- the world’s largest car market- is substantial. Fueled by ever-rising gasoline costs and the growing popularity of European-styled, “green” cars in America, by 2010, these fuel-efficient, mini-type cars are expected to account for nearly 40% of all cars sold in the U.S.
