DaimlerChrysler's ground-breaking 2008 Smart Fortwo will cost less to make than its forerunner.
The catchphrase chronicles the entire legend, “The Smart Fortwo brand, where a powerful passion already exists, together with a dynamic pulse and a pure fascination for fun!
The Smart will come in a Pure, Pulse and Passion model which will be embracing the Brabus appearance.
Eye-catching and energetic the 2007 ForTwo is innovative and is well-designed transportation and has improved handling and better equipped for the United States than the exiting ForTwo model.
The H7 headlights feature projection technology and will be more aerodynamic, tail lights are updated, superior U.S safety features, color choices and available options. The Smart Fortwo will be extended 7 inches and weight increases by a few pounds because of added safety features and reinforced doors.
The Smart has an ingenious and friendly interior, with more driver, passenger and luggage (20% more) room. Even the dashboard appearance has been improved in order to comply with DOT regulations.
The sloped windshield is panoramic and windshield angle will be modified for new protection of pedestrian's standards, the power side windows are large.
The new Smart Fortwo will be launched in April 2007 with re-engineered engines.
The new Mitsubishi three cylinder engines will come in 3 versions that deliver 61 hp, 71 hp or 84 hp. Even, the hp of the Smart Fortwo cdi (Common-rail Diesel Injection) will be increased by ten percent, to 45 hp.

The engine has a pioneering technique called "stop & go" that decreases the engines revs at red lights, similar to a hybrid giving you even more fuel mileage. The engine is the same type as the turbo-charged engine that was to be used in Mitsubishi Motors new concept mini car. There are even alternative drives on the drawing board.
All engines are combined with an automated manual five-speed transmission from Getrag, replacing the previous laborious six-speed mode.
Getrag Corporate Group is the systems supplier and integration partner for transmission and drive train systems. They are the largest independent manufacturer of transmissions in the world. The earlier Smart Fortwo was disapproved by many because of its lengthy gear change.
The new drive engineering provides for a more agility and smoother driving experience. Smart says that despite the extra power, fuel consumption ranges are better.
The changed running gear and the slightly larger body make the Smart Fortwo more comfortable and safer. DaimlerChrysler claims that the Fortwo’s safety rating matches that of the Mercedes C-class sedan. A bold statement!
Because of reduced operating cost and streamlining expenses DaimlerChrysler's ground-breaking 2007 Smart Fortwo will cost less to make than its forerunner. Material costs alone are 12 percent lower than the original model introduced in 1998 .

About the 2008 SmartThey (smart GmbH) have replaced approximately 90 percent of the older Smart vehicle's parts.

Extras for 2008 include head/thorax side airbags, air conditioning (standard for passion), electric power steering, heated seats, alloy wheels (standard for pulse and passion), leather seats, a fixed child seat fastener, a quality audio system with a CD changer for 6 CDs and a sound system featuring a subwoofer and an MP3 interface. A portable navigation system can be integrated in the car. Voice instructions are given via the loudspeakers of the stereo system.
Options also include light and rain sensor and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors. Tachometer and clock are optional.
