 Any given day there are numerous new Smart Cars available for sale on Ebay. Some are priced very fair, while others try to make a big profit off the limited numbers of these great cars. At first the Smarts being offered for sale on eBay were not selling that well, but things are changing fast. In 1999, when the first smart mcc (micro compact car) was posted on ebay, the Smart car and eBay started a strange relationship.
A few non-compliant Smart's were offered on the most successful online auction site, to American buyers, and in most cases were taken down by ebay. This went on for several years.
Finally, in December 2004 the first “modified Smart” was submitted for auction on eBay by the Zap Company. Their gray market Smart car was also removed by eBay.
Zap, at that time was in the process of modifying European Smart cars to past US regulations and according to a Zap spokesperson, “Due to the high profile of this auction they (ebay) would like to see the Americanization of the car completed before allowing it to be sold.”
It was not until June of 2005 that the first fully U.S. compliant and Americanized Smart Cars were made available to the general public and finally sold on EBay. The first Smart sold on ebay was a 2002 Smart Car ForTwo Cabriolet Passion and sold for a whopping $35,350. 
Since then many things have changed. The Smart is now U.S. compliant and imported by the Penske Group and smart USA. You can frequently find their Smarts for sale on ebay.
Sure, tens of thousands of would-be buyers have plunked down $99 deposits to get on the waiting list for their Smart cars that stretches into 2010. At one time the waiting list of potential buyers was around 30,000; now that list tops 75,000 people, anxiously waiting to take ownership of their Smart.
These ebay Smart cars still get the same great MPG, are well equipped, fun to drive and also turn heads! But, through the EBay buying system you can still make a statement and be one of the first on your block to own this amazing vehicle and skip the wait.

EBay Has 2008 Smart Cars Available
