Smart USA Celebrates Grand Opening

The authorized distributor for the Smart cars, Smart USA celebrated their grand opening in Bloomfield Hills, their U.S. headquarters, by delivering a Smart car to Roger Stam of White Lake, Michigan, the first Michigan Smart car buyer. We congratulate the 1 lucky family and the many other Smart supporters that have waited these many years and will soon be driving smart. The Leith Smart dealership in Cary, NC is one of three in the state. Michigan will only have one Smart dealer and that is the home store for smart USA Distributor LLC, a subsidiary of Penske Automotive Group

Mr. Stam plans to drive his Smart as his daily commuter to his job as a data base administrator. He told reporters before taking delivery of his 2008 Smart "I like the gas mileage. It just seems to be a fun little car."

He added "Anybody who lives in this area (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) knows that anything Mr. Penske does is going to be good for the area."

As we move ahead in this new century, electric and alternative vehicles will develop into a dominant mode for transporting people and products for our society. Alternative fuel vehicles will be a viable approach for the environment, your family, your pocketbook, and for future generations to enjoy.

In 2008 we predict sales of hybrid vehicles will account for 12% of the 2 million or so midsize vehicles sold annually in the United States.

For 2008, 1.2 million hybrids will be sold in the US market and car buyers will have a choice of over 40 hybrids. By 2010, 7 - 9% of all cars sold in America will be hybrids or alternative cars.

Adding Smart cars will help Daimler meet corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) requirements, DaimlerChrysler AG Chairman Dieter Zetsche says. He continues “The idea of bringing Smart to the U.S. was met with smirks in 2000, but conditions have changed, making an urban car appealing.”
