ED Stereo Upgrade Options

Well its been one plus years since the release of the Smart ED

Would like to keep the stock radio but make the sound better and keep the stock look

anybody tackle this yet

I searched lots of other threads but want a set up that is minimal but gives
a better sound quality

pictures would be great as well

upgraded to a pioneer double din set up and a jl stealthbox sub for the underneath. actually not very hard to do, just gotta have patience so you dont break the plastics around the trim of radio. ended up pulling the USB AUX box out of the glove so then i can have the HDMI mirror link cables sneak through to link my phone screen onto the doub din. takes like... 2.5-3 hours to do..

im running a single DIN scosche adapter (the best adapter imo the metra one is just too cheap and felt like the radio wants to fall everytime tou accelerate)
running a kenwood KDC-X998 with JL 300/4 amp for front speakers and HD750.1 for subs
my front speakers are CDT Audio ES-62IS Gold with a crossover and tweeter upgrade and the subs(2) are from creative sound (CSS SDX10's) in a ported box tuned around 32hz ..

The ED had a nice electrical system, i dont know how much power it pushes but even when playing music full blast the lights don't dimm in the dash.. actually it was the first time i saw that on a stock electric system lol

will get you some pics this weekend if i have some time .. i also need to take pics of my headlight retrofit!

Anyone had any success with just updating the speakers? I guess in the doors? Are there others that can be swapped? I am new to the SMART ED, and as much as I like the car the stereo sound quality just isn't great.

EDIT: just watched a video on Youtube showing how to get to the speakers. Ugh, not as simple as I was hoping.

the headunit with stock speakers is better than the stock headunit with a speaker upgrade.

I do appreciate the input. But what is this based on? You've heard so many combinations that you've found this? In home stereos I've found speaker quality to be the biggest factor in sound quality.
