Doesn't smart state that it activates the other car's crumple zone.
The moving barrier did not give at all!
The door is still closed too.

For what it's worth this improves the smart's chances on the road.
Perhaps not significant, yet everything helps.

Did they mention the results of that test?
It was hit by a 5,500lb sled at 56 mph at a 20% offset and 7 degree angle. That's give or take the size of of a large-ish crossover hitting you while you're attempting to make a turn.

Unfortunately, it appears the results of their fleet study isn't available to the public eye...

I don't think thats a fair or valid comparison. What if every car on the road was a smart car? There would be nothing to "activate." I think a better term would be that its crash ratings are "taking advantage" of another car's crumple zone. IMO they should all be tested via a brick wall. Why not plan for worst-case-scenario instead of "smart car crashing into full sized sedan safety rating"

The Fit was a tough call -- buy the 2013, which was made in Japan, or go for the new one that ostensibly have a better offset crash rating, but made in Mexico... I got the 2013 (and a big discount as well).
