Steven, you make a great point! If that's what it takes, and apparently it is, hooray.

In addition to the free mat, are they going to pay us for our time and expenses to drive a few hundred miles to the nearest dealer?

Excellent question. I've wondered myself how Mercedes would handle a recall. Hope you raise the question with them. Let us know their response if you do.

The insulation mat they are referring to is in front of the motor on the outside of the floor, next to the motor. If you look in the engine compartment way up in the front, past the alternator, you could see where it hangs down.

Oh Im assuming its the interior carpet that you have to lift up to get to the engine cover from the inside trunk

The internet version of the recall. Lol Probably redundant but it isn't official til it's on the net right?

I don’t understand what is meant by...

“During this rectification period, Mercedes-Benz will not be able to sell, import, or deliver the vehicles or the defective item until the concerned equipment has been remedied according to the manufacturer's instructions.”

I think it means they can't sell any known defective vehicles to the public that are involved in the recall. It's kind of ironic since Smart division has been a red headed step child to the Mercedes dealerships. Wonder if ALL Mercedes dealers service centers will do the repairs or ONLY the few left SMART CENTERS?

I bet only the MB dealerships, that had a smart franchise will preform the service bulletin. If you live 100 miles from a authorize dealership. That not smarts fault. It’s your choice to find a way to have it fixed. That individual made the choice, to purchase the car. After 10 years, if it hasn’t burst into flames. Your probably fine. Penske was the importer at the time. Still haven’t seen anything in the mail, on any service bulletin.
