2019 Smart brick. No lights. Stuck in the garage.

Hello, I recently got a 2019 Smart Cabrio. Been driving and charging via a regular wall plug for the past couple of month. It's my commuter car to work. One day I went to the garage, disconnected the charger, and put the key in to go to work. Nothing happened.... no lights, nothing....

Reached out to SmartUSA roadside service, tow came. But can't make it up to my floor. So need to get the Smart into neutral to get to the tow truck on a different floor.

Followed the manual, removed driver side center console panel, matter of fact removed all the driver side panel, and I don't see a yellow release anywhere. The closest thing to yellow is the fuse like yellow box that's literally at the floor board.

Also tried using a battery pack to jump the battery under the hood, but still no lights.. nothing

Help

Guessing that the tow can't make it to your floor because of ceiling height?

Call smartUSA Roadside Service and request that they resend a rollback WITH wheel dollies. The tow driver jacks up the rear and puts a dolly under each wheel and then he carefully tows it down to a floor that can handle his rig?

We talked about that. However, the incline from 5th to 4th prevents that. The truck is on 4th. Smart is on 5th... so braking the dollie is a bit hard for one person.

Regardless, I been searching for this "yellow release" thingie... and have yet to find it. There are no yellow release tab in the area where the manual is referring to. Is this normal?

Pretty sure that only applies to the 451. Your 453 is a different animal.

In your case, it's academic. The 451 was produced for the US from 2008 to 2015, with the electric drive version continuing on as a 2016. The 453 for the US started with the 2016 model year, with the gas engine version discontinued mid-2017. Everything since then has been electric drive. And now smart will discontinue all sales in the US and Canada at the end of 2019.

Ah.... gotcha. Thanx!

Yes, totally electric. Wonderful for the environment and totally fun to drive. But like a cell phone that is dropped into the ocean, it's just a heavier brick version right now. Wah-Wah

The manual is definitely for my model (see attached image). Basically step 3 is what's missing in the car. No yellow release tab/switch/knob/etc...

Not sure if anyone have a 453 or experience with one can point me the way.

the 451 is the older, stubby, narrow virtually hoodless version of the Smart. The 453 is the newer version of the smart that is wider and has a bit of a "hood" protrusion. A 2019 model has to be a 453. Look it up!

But regarding the matter at hand - how did you attempt to jump the car? What is this "battery pack" you used? You MUST use another car and jumper cables or a battery charger to jump-start or revive a dead 12V battery in a Smart! Those little lithium pack thingys they sell on the internet do NOT work!

I'm fairly confident that if you just have someone jump your car from another car using jumper cables you will get your car back running.
