Wheels and Tires

I just purchased a 2016 smart for two Pure . I would like to replace the rims and tires. I have called 3 wheel shops online and basically cannot get a pair of rims and tires to replace stock.

I would like to get 16" rims or if that's a problem...... Then 15" rims. The car Has 4 lug wheels.

I would like to know if i get 16" or 15" rims what should be size, offset or anything else i need to know. Same goes for the tires.

I do not want low profile tires.

What characteristics or priorities are you looking to get out of your new wheels? It sounds like handling or ultimate traction is not the main factor so what don't the OEM wheels give you?

The standard rims for the 165/65R15 front tires are 5Jx15 ET32 and the standard rims for the 185/60R15 rear tires are 5.5Jx15 ET42.

5.5Jx15 ET42

The PCD on these rims is 4x100mm and the central bore is 60.1mm.

On the 453, instead of the standard 165/65R15 front tires and 185/60R15 rear tires there are a number of options open to you. One option is to fit 185/55R15 tires to the standard 5" wide front rims and 205/50R15 tires to the standard 5.5" wide rear rims.

Vredestein Quatrac 5

Vredestein Quatrac 5
205/50R15 86H

Another option is 175/65R15 front tires and 195/60R15 rear tires.

Vredestein Quatrac 5
195/60R15 88H

My preference out of these two options would be 175/65R15 front and 195/60R15 rear tires. I wouldn't go for 16" wheels as the ride is a lot harder due to the lower sidewalls.

Hey,
Jzchen,
Tirerack and a few others online were absolutely no help. I think they just are misinformed on the smart car. I am in the U.S. I would like to buy from a US company. I'm also not looking to spend too much. But thank you.

Injured again,
My 2016 smart for two has hubcaps.... I DONOT like hubcaps. I am looking for a black glossy or matte 15" rim. Like the vision 423 rims. Nothing more than a better look.

Big 453,
Some great info, but unfortunately none of the links work for me and it's not a 453 model. I have the smart fortwo pure.

I have been on the phone with numerous companies that tell me they donot have a rim that fits my car..

I have also used the configurator on many sites and it pulls up an electric model but no good.

Either way, if you know of any black rims that are not too high in price. About $100 each rim and $100each tire. Please let me know.

If you bought it in the US and it's a 2016 model (4 lug wheels) it's a 453.

The C453 is the model code. C451 came prior, and C450 came before that. All are Smart Fortwo coupes.

What Jwright said is correct. All 2016 gas versions of the smart are the 3rd gen 453. Just so you know, tire companies most likely won’t recommend that you put the same size tire all around because the manufacturer didn’t so equip the car that way and does not recommend it to be so equipped. It’s a liability issue for them. Your smart already has the base steel 15” rims and you wish to have a different style. I seriously doubt you will find ones in the $100 range unless it will be on the used market and take-offs where someone upgraded the factory rims. With less than 10,000 ICE 453 smarts imported into the U.S. why would rim companies spend the money to develop a slew of aftermarket rims?

Links now fixed.

You could use Renault Twingo III alloy wheels and run 185/60R15 tires all round.

Here's a listing on ebay.co.uk but it's collection only in the UK.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-T...gAAOSw11BcB~jZ

The Renault Twingo III uses 5Jx15 ET38 front rims and 5.5J ET36 rear rims.

Here's another listing, but this time for Smart 453 alloy wheels.
