Maytag Washer Engine

There was a time when not all homes in the US had AC power.

Maytag made gas powered washing machines up until the mid-50s. A few lucky kids ran these engines on their bikes. A2Jackhttp://

When I was a kid, my Dad built me a mini-bike. He told me when he was young that he and his buddies put a washing machine motor on a bicycle. He said they would have to push it, and jump on, and they could ride it back and forth down the old country road. .......... He left out the part that washing machines had gas engines......It wasn't until much later that I figured out that they didn't have a REALLY LONG extension cord !

And in some places its cheaper to run the gas engine than use electricity.

Huge IF. EMP, as the result of nuclear detonation? I don't think I'd be too concerned about whiter whites in the aftermath.

there were also some Maytag racers, that used the same engine I believe -- kind of like a shrunk down vintage dirt-track car.
