453 Owner Review - After One Week of Ownership

So, after 3 years with the 451, I bought a 453 Automatic with the Sports Package. So far I'm very happy with the improvements. Here is how the 453 compares to the old car (not any other car):
  • bigger - specially inside - more elbow room,
  • smoother - rides over potholes better - nice on the highway, I drove it at 70 for two hours and it felt much better than the old car,
  • faster - much faster with substantially better acceleration,
  • the new transmission is very nice - less jerky in the sports mode with less shifting than the the eco mode.
  • seats are more comfy,
  • the carpets seems to be upgraded,
  • The basic radio is much better and has bluetooth,
  • less storage nooks than the 451 ... I really miss the storage on the sides of the steering column, the tray under the radio, and the big cup holders. The new cup holders are small and are in the way. Instead there is a sunglass holder above the driver window. meh.
  • It seems that 451 had better or brighter headlights and high beams.
Here are some gripes:
  • When I got the car the alignment was off. I still have to take it in. The salesman said that another car had the same problem. hmmm,
  • The AC does weird crap. After I turn it on, I get no air for 5 seconds, then the air comes out the footwell, then to the top vents, then some warm air, but finally turns cold and works fine. After turning the car off and on again the AC settings change but randomly to different settings.
As far as the sports package, it looks nice and I like the wheels but I couldn't feel a big difference with base suspension and wheels. I also got the multi-function steering wheel (not by choice) which is a waste of money unless you want cruise control and volume at the your fingertips. All in all, its a great car and not just in comparison to the old car.

Thanks
Jim

I believe the Multi-function steering wheel & cruise control are standard and are not any extra money.

To that point, how about a 453 photo thread for new owners?

I agree with pretty much all of these assessments, they are completely fair and spot on assessments.

With one exception. The steering wheel with the cruise control is standard on the models being sold so far. No way to opt out of what's standard.

Maybe you guys can help with the photos .... When I hit insert image it asks for a URL (the image is on my desktop ...?) and when I click attach file, an error message says that I have exceeded my quota ....(even after I shrunk the image to 170 KB) ... I know I am doing something wrong.

You are probably right about the steering, however it does show up as a $1,400 option in the window sticker.

The Passion Trim is $1,490 and includes the Multifunction steering wheel plus the Cargo Cover, electric adjustable and heated door mirrors, mirrors caps in tridion color, height adjustable driver's seat, passion trim upholstery (black, orange, black & white), passion wheels, and the ability to have more tridion colors/packages/options than a pure will offer.

Cruise Control is standard on every trim level including the not-yet-available Pure. As for volume controls, I'd have to wait to see a Pure to give a definitive answer.

You can upload them to this thread: Got my smart!!! - Smart Car of America Gallery

You can also create your own SCoA gallery and link to that or host your photos on something like Photobucket, Flickr, etc. and link from there.

this website has "issues" with uploading pics. i used to be able to upload a pic in a reply. the "drag and drop" bar here SUCKS, will only accept "thumbnail" size photos from me, it "circle jerks" me when i try anything larger. you moderators have to address this. i see others post LARGE photos currently, i can only post "postage stamp" images, WHAT GIVES?!?!?!?!?
