1. Next-gen smart will not arrive until 2015. here in the states
2. It will be based on the design language of the Forstars concept. ok
3. Engine will be a .8L turbo producing 100 HP. more than one engine, remains to be seen what we'll get.
4. Fuel economy will be over 50 mpg. so far, no confirmation
5. A Brabus engine will offer an extra 25 HP. so far, no confirmation
6. Standard 6-speed manual transmission, or optional 7-speed DCT. nope
7. Car length will remain the same as the current generation; but the width will increase by 4 inches. yep
7. Interior will be noticeably more upscale, with more optional equipment. kind of a broad statement, not verifiable per se
8. It looks nothing like the mule spy shots (as expected). My source has seen it and says we will NOT be disappointed.

And the doors on the new Forfour will be suicide-style. nope

Hindsight is 20/20...

And of course, now that we've seen the actual car, "It looks nothing like the mule spy shots (as expected)" is actually the opposite. smart was trying to tell us something all along.

We're now back in the 2007 "speculation rules" mode, except we're getting a lot of info from smart this time around. Once the Euro configurator is online we'll know even more, but some of that will not apply to the 453 fortwo we get in North America, of course.

Anyone heard if the pricing is to change significantly? Won't matter what it looks like if nobody can afford it... especially if they price it like a Mercedes.

The price (in Europe) for the smart fortwo will correspond to that of the current smart series, while the smart forfour will cost only around 600 euros more with the same engine.

That post was a year old – yet much of it proved amazingly true, if not precisely so. Those were the first-ever leaked details... better to give credit for what was right, than to "meh" for what was wrong. Some specs may have changed during the last year, which should be unsurprising.

Just curious: How many of *your* year-old 453 predictions came true? Meh.
