wishing gasoline version in America

I'm one of these Smrt Fortwo fans who wish the gasoline engine version will become available in America again.
Is there any chance that may happen in the future?

I don't think that will happen as smart is phasing out ICE production world wide by 2020.

I don’t hold out much hope for their return either. Personally, I think they pulled the plug too soon on the gas 453 distribution in the U.S. I think the market would have increased a bit over the next couple years. Look at all the folks just getting into smarts buying used 451s who might have moved on to a 453. They werent going to change the design or engine of the gas 453 between it being dropped in the U.S. and it’s final production. It was already approved for pollution and safety so why not just continue importing it until the gas version is dropped world-wide? I know, dead horse subject.

Yeah I jumped in a 2008 Cabrio and went through a great deal of restoration to make it look and run better then new and I know in a few more years I’d probably be looking at brand new 453 ICE if they would have them on the market there actually wonderful little cars as a single guy it was just supposed to be a weekend toy but ended up putting a nice radio and cruise control and now it’s my daily driver after I found out it can hold a whole buggy of groceries in the back

While we are dreaming, how about a diesel 453 fortwo in the states (one that can be flat towed of course)? I'm glad I got one of the last ICE cabrio 453s to pull behind our motorhome although I do worry about parts, etc. as the car ages...

You'll see a unicorn in your garage before a new gas powered fortwo. Hambach will stop making the gas engine version next year and that's that.

Ohhhh a diesel 453 I would be at the dealership throwing my money at them for that. I had a 02 beetle TDI and those little Diesel engines go forever and the gas mileage is crazy I drive from sw Louisiana to Birmingham Alabama on one tank nonstop I can imagine what a diesel smart would do.
