And yet another "smart star" is born.

Can't wait to see/hear the times and travels of Chelsea and MM.

Easier to post pics on Kinja than on here sadly. :/ I actually use Kinja to host the pics I post here too! I didn't have access to my computer yesterday, just my phone.

Indeed though, for those who don't want to link out, meet Chelsea!

I spent roughly 4 hours cleaning her out yesterday. I was scared the stains from water ingress from the windows wouldn't come out, but my cleaning cloths made short work of them; same with the stains that were on the seats.

I'll be making my own stylish floor mats for the car using extra building material from my house. I don't expect to drive her much in the winter so I'm not worried about not having a protective rubber mat. The yoga mats are a template for when I cut the real material.

This trip was especially different because I didn't have access to my phone's GPS due to limited power. Thankfully I took the same route back as I did when I got the 453 so GPS wasn't needed!

Surprisingly, my parents don't like the car. They were really mad at me for the whole day for not giving them one of my other smarts or this smart. I wasn't aware that such was a requirement if I were to get a third car. I mean, they know I wanted one of each generation. And not a chance in the world they'd get Chelsea. I would never hear the end of it about how much they'd hate the transmission.

The car doesn't need too much stuff. The biggest things will be figuring out the leaky A/C unit and fixing the windows. Clicking the window buttons makes something click inside the door, so hopefully the fix for that may not be too bad!

Thanks so so much again cfriedma! ♥ ♥ ♥

Congrats!

To me, the original is the best. Not the most comfortable, and they're not without their weak points. But it's the best expression of the smart concept and the 698 cc engine is quite nice. You can modify it for 101 HP if you go to full BRABUS 101 spec.

Now, I would like to add this latest example to the G&K VIN registry that I have going. So far there are 150 of them that I have managed to register. If you could tell me the last 6 of the VIN by PM that would be great!

Thanks! I'll do that when I get home!

If I'm honest, I see why you like the 450 the most. As far as road trip cars go, I'd first choose the 453 (it's the most normal), then the 450, then finally the 451. This car ate up those miles so impressively well. I held a consistent 75-80 mph and the car didn't break a sweat doing it. I didn't even have a CC to use and I loved it. I find the seats more comfortable than even when the 451 was new.

Also, the six gears on this thing are absolutely awesome! I'm not sure what computer work has been done, but Chelsea upshifts faster than my 451 and there's plenty of torque through each gear. The engine note is also by far my favourite of the three generations too.

There is a ton of aftermarket goodies available for the 450. Look in Ebay.de and .uk.

The windows need the window regulator plastic slider and maybe roller. Ask me how I know...

Oil changes will be interesting if you haven't found out yet...

And 451 rubber mats will "fit" the 450...

If I remember any other words of 450 wisdom I will try to pass them on.

Seems like an easy fix! I'm already resubbing to Evilution too.

IIRC, I'll need some sort of sucking device for oil changes due to the lack of a drain plug?

Also, on the way back I had the pedal down and going at the 85mph limit. Temps jumped a dot from 80c to 100c. Safe to assume normal in 90f weather?

Backing down to 75-80 mph made the dot go back to 80c.

Window regulators were easy, just time consuming (parts came from Turkey). Oil pans are available with drain plugs, probably a good investment. There is another UK Smart club that has a lot of 450 technical details. The 450 smart fortwo - (1998 - 2007))

It will be fun!

Don't bother getting a pan with a drain plug, it's not required. Get a oil sucker from any Marine supply store.

No problem with the temperature gauge, it's normal to see that in hot temperatures...
