Unlocking key also unlocks rear window, causing interior light to stay on.

Is there a solution for this? I don't think it was doing it at first, I just got my car on Friday. For now I'm going to unlock the key before getting in the car, then shut the rear window BEFORE getting in the car so I don't have to get out of the car to do so.

Any advise?

When you press and hold the hatch unlock button on the fob, does it do anything?

When the left key is pressed the driver's door is unlocked and when it is pressed a second time the passenger's door is unlocked. This also makes it possible to unlock the rear hatch manually by inserting your fingers under the glass lid and pressing a switch upwards. A small click is then heard which confirms that the glass can be lifted.
The right button when pressed for about a second or more will activate a solenoid which releases the latch and the rear glass will actually pop up a little. Just lift the glass window a bit and it will go up for quick access. This is great when your hands are full of groceries for example. The remaining center button will lock your car-- providing both doors and glass lid are clicked shut. This locking is confirmed with 3 light flashes.
As for an interior light staying on, check whether the light switch between the two visors is in the proper position for automatic operation.
On my car it's the part which is closest to the driver which is depressed.
There are various timers built into the car which will turn off the light after a while. Let's say you get into the car and sit inside, the moment the engine is started the light will go out. Good feature.
The last button which is practically never used is the red button. Let's say you approach your car with packages in your hand and some unsavory characters are nearby lurking about. Then just press the red button and the horn will begin blowing on and off. This a simple way of creating attention and hopefully will discourage any bad guys from doing you harm. I hope you you get this and I hope I understood your question correctly.

If your fob has the third button to open the hatch only it has to be held for quite a while. As I walked toward the Smart it is way over the normal 3 second activating time. Roughly plus five seconds. Since I leased it in February, I thought it was a quirk that it would never work. I guess I didn’t have the patience to wait. One day I did. I really can’t see a huge use for it. On the electric, one hit opens the driver's door, second, the passenger, third, the hatch and fourth the ED port. I am probably wrong and the third also opens the ED flap.
