NEW SMARTCAR FORTWO OWNER (Need Help Please)

Hi guys. I’m a new owner of a 2013 Fortwo. It has 18K original miles and everything is great. Because i’ll be driving this car ALOT, I wanted to ask this amongst all of you guys.

Each day for work, I travel about 80miles round trip and I was looking to get advice on what is the best tires ( or possible additional rims so that all are equal) to get.

I’ve read quite a bit that many owners suggest getting all four rims / tires to equal? Is this best option and / or should I keep with my stock rims and just get better tires?

currently I have the Continental ContiProContact 155 / 60 / R15 (Front) and 175 / 55 / R15 (Rear)

Thanks in advance,

Josef

Welcome to the forum! If you want the best in ride comfort for the least coin, pick up another set of rear wheels, then get 185/60/15 tyres mounted to them on all four corners. If you're super dedicated to ride comfort, get the Daystar lift kit then go even higher in tyre size.

It is also recommended to lube your chassis points under the car. I didn't notice any difference in how the car felt over bumps, but it at least did stop the suspension noises? My lube also seemingly attracted all sorts of dirt and mud from my offroading activities, but oh well.

I've owned a 2009 Brabus for 5 years now and just decided to get away from the 15"/17" front to rear stagger. Already have the new Genius 5.5 x 15" wheels; currently waiting for the 185/60/15 tires to get here. What drove the change was the harsh ride, and the fact that the short sidewall on the original rear tires left the aluminum wheel vulnerable to damage. I bent one slightly after hitting a pot hole driving along the interstate at 60mph.

Everything showed up today and here are the visual results. The difference in both ride and handling is remarkable!

There's a lot of choice even if you stick to the standard rims on the 451 car, ie. 4.5Jx15 ET23.5 front rims and 5.5Jx15 ET22 rear rims.

Option 1: 155/60R15 front tires and 175/55R15 rear tires

Option 2: 165/60R15 front tires and 185/55R15 rear tires

Option 3: 175/55R15 front tires and 195/50R15 rear tires

Option 4: 185/60R15 front and rear tires.

The 175/55R15 and 185/60R15 tire sizes are not officially approved for the narrow 4.5" wide front rims but will fit. Option 1 is the standard size.

I would suggest going for Option 2, or Option 4 if you want the extra ground clearance and like the look.

In case you want even more options:

Option 5: 155/65R15 front tires and 175/60R15 rear tires

Option 6: 165/65R15 front tires and 185/60R15 rear tires

Option 7: 175/60R15 front tires and 195/55R15 rear tires

Option 8: 185/60R15 front tires and 205/55R15 rear tires

With these last four options you might have difficulty finding good quality matching tires.

Since they've got the question of tires nicely covered: I'll just add, "Welcome aboard!"

Holy smokes, fantastic job on that!

And if you want even more choices, contact @DreamCarOwner on here. He has a lift kit and some real meaty tyres on his 451. He reports good news with them.
