The Mechanic found the same... the piston rings are not expanding. Oddly, as previously mentioned the car turns on and runs, uncertain for how far.. turns on when it is cold/not used, and when the car heats up, they cannot expand, and it cannot turn on - sorry I have improper use as I've been told.
That would be my dad just belittling me when there is a problem that is his fault to take away energy and place on someone else to expand on their faults instead of his own.
My dad has since re-apologized for killing my first car. It was a mistake, but almost a year now, and. sigh.
Anyhow the mechanic has been really nice, and helpful. He was looking into a newly wrecked smart, to test the engine earlier this week to see if it could be of use.
I am curious, and asked him if he might know roughly what the cost is to rebuild the engine. I am willing to foot the bill, but only for a certain amount. $2500 being my MAX. Last year when I first bought the car, the fan in the front needed to be changed, which through a private mercedes mechanic cost me $1375.00 and with the car only being $4200 Canadian, that was intense.
Anyhow. Will sell it once fixed. It only has 50K on it, and it is in really nice condition IF it runs, and if I put $2k into, it will now be an $8k car - which is what people were selling them for last year. If I can get $7k for it, I'll be happy, and with a little bit more in saving's buy a truck.
I just don't want to keep putting money into it when it breaks a toe because most mechanics tell me it is a pain to work on.
I just wanted to start to be a bit more independent, and learn basic maintenance that I could do myself. It would seem a specialty car are only for those with quite a bit more cash flow, to fix.
Sorry for such a neg post. I wanted to have a way to bond more with my dad, but it has just been a head ache. & nothing but upsets. I love the dorky little car, but a truck will be better when I need to haul stuff, and want to go exploring off the beaten path.
I just don't want to put a bunch of money into it, and not make it back later when I do sell.
