Correct, that is why I stopped. I know normal cruise is around 190

Hi,

I don't head out to my dad's neck of the woods to take a better look into the car until next week. I kind of had a celebration of it's death today, sounds awful, I know, but I've been hanging onto the fact that it might still work, and knowing it's truth - he's busy, and he forgot, but he'd mentioned he'd work on it for at least two months, and he changed the head gasket thinking that was the initial problem, in two weeks - he found it really frustrating to work on so I don't think it can be salvaged, but I will see what happens next week, but I am not getting my hopes up. Will keep you all posted. Thanks again, for your knowledge.

Anyhow, thought I'd share some of my photo's here of the lil car, it was truly PURE FREEDOM having my first vehicle ever.

Don't give up on it just yet.. Anything can be fixed! and worst case scenario, Used engines are starting to show up relatively cheap if you look around.

I could not seem to post photo's in this thread, I don't have them up online anywhere other than on instagram. Trying currently to post in the galleries here...I just don't like having my photo's floating online in too many places.

I am going to look into maybe replacing the engine from another car. Might anyone here know if it has to be the exact model? Or must it be "passion" & or have to be the same year?

Unfortunately, he is not up to hearing forum advice. Though, I will always keep this information in mind. ((due to having lived online in forums for years - I had some really bad advice, unfortunately the good out weighed the bad, but he rarely heard about those experiences )) Please don't take it personally.

So long as the engine is from a 451 (2008-2015 in the US) you're good to go! The engines stayed the same throughout the run.

Sweet, thanks!

I thought I'd come by one last night, model, and year needed, but it was an old car2go that had over heated, BUT, ironically, the man who posted it, happens to be a foreman for the mechanic shop at my Mercedes downtown, which I haven't been to yet, and he thought something wasn't right, and he mentioned that the other two locations have service aids that are more part replacers than anything. He said he could talk with dad to give him some idea's, but than I asked how much it would be if his team looked it over, and he said I can bring it in, and he won't charge me anything!

Plus, he mentioned he may know someone that has a few engines tucked away, for that model, and years required. I sure hope so!

The Mechanic found the same... the piston rings are not expanding. Oddly, as previously mentioned the car turns on and runs, uncertain for how far.. turns on when it is cold/not used, and when the car heats up, they cannot expand, and it cannot turn on - sorry I have improper use as I've been told.

That would be my dad just belittling me when there is a problem that is his fault to take away energy and place on someone else to expand on their faults instead of his own.

My dad has since re-apologized for killing my first car. It was a mistake, but almost a year now, and. sigh.

Anyhow the mechanic has been really nice, and helpful. He was looking into a newly wrecked smart, to test the engine earlier this week to see if it could be of use.

I am curious, and asked him if he might know roughly what the cost is to rebuild the engine. I am willing to foot the bill, but only for a certain amount. $2500 being my MAX. Last year when I first bought the car, the fan in the front needed to be changed, which through a private mercedes mechanic cost me $1375.00 and with the car only being $4200 Canadian, that was intense.

Anyhow. Will sell it once fixed. It only has 50K on it, and it is in really nice condition IF it runs, and if I put $2k into, it will now be an $8k car - which is what people were selling them for last year. If I can get $7k for it, I'll be happy, and with a little bit more in saving's buy a truck.

I just don't want to keep putting money into it when it breaks a toe because most mechanics tell me it is a pain to work on.

I just wanted to start to be a bit more independent, and learn basic maintenance that I could do myself. It would seem a specialty car are only for those with quite a bit more cash flow, to fix.

Sorry for such a neg post. I wanted to have a way to bond more with my dad, but it has just been a head ache. & nothing but upsets. I love the dorky little car, but a truck will be better when I need to haul stuff, and want to go exploring off the beaten path.

I just don't want to put a bunch of money into it, and not make it back later when I do sell.
