Engine light is on

So car is running fine but the engine light is on.

Is this a time/mileage maintinence thing? I saw the other post that talks about resetting the maintinence indicator. Is that the same thing?

Yes Joe, that's the check engine light. Using a scanner, you may be able to read the codes, to determine the problem. You may also be able to reset it.
But do find out what the codes are for and go from there.
Check engine light can be triggered by an improperly installed gas cap!

Open the gas cap and reseat. It will usually reset the light AFTER restarting the car on three individual trips!
