What took the most time was O'Reiley Auto couldn't find the fan they supposedly had in stock. Turns out it was sitting on the shelf the whole time. The mounts are aluminum hangers left over from re-mounting rain gutters on the house. I had a few left over and screwed them into the front plastic sub frame. The fan is designed to go in either direction depending on how the wires are connected.

Was the wiring the same? I assume you had to rewire the new fan. Also where exactly did you install the gauge censor on the fan and inside your car to view the temps.

They gave me a estimate of about $500 give or take the last time i was there. That's why i just bought the fan and left. I had already paid almost $2000 in service earlier this year, and i didn't have the money for the fan. Since the car still runs fine and the only problem was the AC not working, i figured i would wait. As of now I am just going to save some money and take it to them later this year. I will call and ask specifically how much and post what they say exactly.

Temp is being monitored via ScangaugeII, wiring plug was removed from factory fan and used for the new fan. I soldered the wires together once I verified the fan was rotating the correct direction.

The fan is controlled by the car's computer. I checked rotation by turning on the AC at max setting (fan runs continuously)

update on price: so i called smart madness and they told me it would take 5-6 hrs x $75 = ~$450.

So I'm left with two choices, either I do it myself with the instructions GreyMatte451 sent me, or I fork over the $450 . So I'm going to hold off on this service for a little while. I think this service would take me two days...and that's if I don't encounter any problems. But I will still start saving my dollars...just in case i go with madness networks.

I just checked their website and smart madness doesn't have a radiator fan listed. Any other ideas where a can get one?

The costly part is the labor on installing the fan as it goes behind the radiator and condenser. This means the whole front end has to come apart including the support, radiator and condenser. Once it is installed, everything will have to be refilled and recharged.

My install has been working since I put it together and I currently have over 103,000 miles on the car. Running in 93+ degree outside temps at 65 MPH and air on max, motor temps are around 193-197F Sitting at stoplights I have seen the temp go up to about 207 max.

I used the original fan wiring and the new fan can be wired to push or pull air, I wired it to push air through the radiator instead of pulling it through from the back side.

Ok, I clicked "Quick Reply".. So is two years later still Quick? Just wanted to jump in here & say I just did this mod myself last Friday..I had searched here for air conditioning blowing cold as long as I was moving, but warm sitting still or very slow traffic. Ran across these posts. Glad I found it.. After lowering the bottom splash pan & finding the electrical connection on the fan (glad I've got small hands) I disconnected the plug. Put a meter on the plug, started the car & turned on the AC - Meter read just about 14 Volts. Also put a simple test lamp into the plug & I could turn it on & off by turning the AC on & off. Then I put 12 volts from my motorcycle battery to the fan and... nothing. Called my local O'Reilly's, they said they had it in stock. It was sitting on the desk when I got there... I Watched the video on removing the front clip... quick trip to the local Ace Hardware for some brackets .. two hours later, the fan was installed. I used two 1/4 inch male spade connectors direct to the stock wiring & taped it up well.
The hardest parts were getting my hand up to the plug & pulling it out and actually fitting the fan in between the front bumper & the radiator.. 40 minutes or so to put the front clip back on and then an 80 mile round trip test drive.. Car is much happier now. AC works & the compressor no longer shuts off & on in crawl & stop traffic.. Thanx for posting this. Saved me a bunch of grief, not to mention money... BTW - '09 Passion within 450 miles of turning 100 K on the odometer... Oh. Next purchase > Scan Gauge. Thanx again.
