We just purchased a 2009 Smart ForTwo and that there is a black round thing on the window with a wire or something attached to it. Attached on window behind rearview mirror....what is it?
Yes Joypet, that is the auto rain sensor, it acts like intermittent wipers on other cars. I think it also is used for auto head lights, as when it is dark enough out it will turn on your head lights. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your smart.

I don't notice mine at all. I do think it is funny though, people will say that it is a danger being there . Yet, they will drive around all day and night texting and setting their GPS,radio, or ____________( insert your favorite electronic gadget )
After having them on the smart, I won't own a car without rain sensing wipers anymore. It's nice to be able to set them and forget them - having them kick themselves up when needed out on the highway when a truck passes and the like is a great benefit.
Umm, don't believe ALL those other misinformed posters . . .
