Does the base radio (9) have Bluetooth capability?

I have the standard Radio 9 set up in my 2015 smart fortwo citybeam edition. I am reading about Bluetooth in cars back to 2008. Is this something extra you have to buy as a plug-in for the car, or is it already built in? I am confused. Thinking of purchasing a wireless Bluetooth speaker for more bass and mid range to add to the existing system which is OK, but fidelity not the greatest. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

The radio 9 does not have built-in Bluetooth. What you have in your 2015 is not a radio 9, it's the standard radio that was introduced in the 2011 model year. It does not have built-in Bluetooth. It might be possible to use a Bluetooth dongle in the USB port to allow playing music through the radio but I've never heard of anyone doing that.

Here’s a bunch of after market Bluetooth adaptors, from Crutchfield Audio. Best Buy will carry some too. I’d go with a USB device.

Post-facelift 451s dump the "Radio 9" and "Radio 10" nomenclature. Instead they use "Entryline" and "Highline".

For your headunit, you'll want an AUX bluetooth adapter like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetoot...dapter+for+car

Most of them can charge from the car's USB port while you use it, so you'll never need to actually charge it. I used to have an adapter in my 2012, but I eventually went back to using an AUX cable as my bluetooth adapter finally broke after 3 years of using it.

No Bluetooth built in. You’d need an adapter. Even with Bluetooth adapter you still wouldn’t be able to hook up the Bluetooth speaker to the existing speaker system.

I bought a small Bluetooth adaptor that I no longer use (upgraded entire system) that worked great and was easy to hide/mount. The cables came from the glovebox, tucked into dash under the drawer and the button/controller/mic was mounted with double sided tape (the round disk with blue light on column.)

I just use the AUX port directly (no Bluetooth) and be sure to Boost Audio in the radio head unit settings - makes a big difference in sound using AUX.

Bluetooth, sound quality is not as good as AUX. USB give you the very best audio. I would just load a memory stick full of your music. Plug it into the USB slot. Use that that method. The other thing you can do is, get a old iPod, fill up music on it. Plug it into the USB slot. I have 2 other vehicles, using that method.

One feature I like with using the mobile phone via AUX is the control over music selection, even by verbal commands.
