Brabus Suspension - EPS Required !?

I purposely ordered my smart w/o EPS

From the outset, I was considering retro-fitting the Brabus suspension; in researching this option, there was only one thread from 2009 that stated power steering was "required" to fit the Brabus kit citing a factory accessory list (link no longer working). The discussion never answered the question of is EPS listed as "mandatory" for profit or is there a legitimate concern?.

I can see no reason a simple strut / spring non- electronic suspension should change steering effort - responses to inputs yes, due to re-balancing the car, but effort?

Do you have a link to the thread you're referring to?

You shouldn't have any issue installing the BRABUS suspension on your car, but I would recommend having the alignment checked afterward.

I'm guessing it was a requirement to avoid customers complaining that their smart car w/o EPS was too hard to steer at low speeds. Just a guess!!

Wasn't it part of the "package", like the "comfort" had leather seats?

Grey you just might be on to something as most Brabuses (Brabae?) WOULD be fitted with beefier front tires.

Ah, those were the good old days; wonder if the '13 BRABUS will include EPS?

EDIT: OK, I get it now - the 2013 BRABUS Sport Package also includes EPS. Thanks for the clarification.

EPS? - appears the answer is yes . .
  • Brabus label (mirror triangle, fuel cap, front grill, rear)
Wonder if they have figured out how to keep the decal on the fuel cap?

Gentlemen,

Please forgive me if this appears snarky, but read my original post - I already have a 2013 (5 days) Passion w/ manual steering. I had planned from the outset to fit the Brabus suspension for the uprated struts/ shocks/springs.

In using "search" to gather info. , sources, etc. there was the referenced post that stated if you were to retrofit a Brabus suspension, the vehicle had to be EPS equipped.

I am not interested in the 2009 Brabus model nor the 2013.

I simply want to know if there is any legitimate reason to not fit this suspension to a smart with manual steering?

Thank you, Grey for a possible factor that could have precipitated the requirement from DVI.
