Costco has our tires

My local Costco (Gig Harbor, WA) carries tires for the smart in stock. That includes Blizzak snow tires.

I met the Tire Shop Manager today when I pulled in to go shopping and he came out to meet me. Turns out he's a 450 owner and an enthusiast. He wants some Brabus wheels like mine for his 450. I told him I didn't think they'd fit. Does anyone know for sure?

He's been lurking on SCOA and I invited him to join up and introduce himself.

Regards,

Dan

The offsets for the 450 and 451 are different. BRABUS wheels are available for the 450 in 15, 16 and 17 inch diameters, but they look different than the ones on the US 451.

Dan,

What is the Costco model number of the Smart tires? I'd like to see if the Kirkland store has them.

Thanks,

John

I'll check the next time I'm in, John. Although I'd be surprised if other stores had them. Our guy ordered them specifically because he's a smart owner and to make sure he could get them. The main reason I posted the information was so that those of us in Western WA would know that there's a local alternative for tires.

Regards,

Dan

One Costco... ALL Costcos. While some items are regional, tires are not and you should be able to have them ordered to any Costco.

I inquired about availability of tires for the smart at our Costco on Richmond Avenue in Houston TX. While they did not have the tires in stock, they could have them on hand within a day (or so the counterman claimed; I did not actually order any tires).

Here's the information

I stopped by our local Costco and spoke w/ Rick the Tire Shop Manager and here's what he gave me.

They're all Bridgstone tires

B340 (Year-round use depending on where you live)

Front: Costco item # 511516 ($84.99)
Rear: Costco item # 511521 ($105.99)

Winter tires are Blizzak (my personal favorites)

Front: Costco item # 510224 ($71.99)
Rear: Costco item # 510228 ($81.99)

If you want to use the Blizzaks year round you'll have a stickier tire compound for handling at the cost of shorter tire life. Given the difference in price, that may be a good compromise and you wouldn't have the hassle and expense of semi-annual change-overs.

Regards,

Dan
