The microwave sensor and windshield wiper are minor issues. The shifting issue is not. It sounds like you have two bad dealerships near you.

Many of us have owned our Smarts for quite a while, and have not had any issues. It's unfortunate that you had the double dose of bad luck to have a car with some issues as well as bad dealerships.

Powerofvoodoo, my wiper on high mode, hits the A pillar too, above 50 on the highway. I'm not going to trade it in for that. Honda aren't prefect either. I just spent $3,700 on a new transmission on our Accord. What are you mad about!!!! My brother's had 4 transmission in his Accord. Only 54,000 miles on it.
Did you do a walk around before you bought the car. Or did they scratch it up when there serviced it? It all under warrenty, just have them fix your car.

Well, powerofvoodoo, I'll try to be more supportive and not read your posts as whining. ok?

Maybe it read that way because you being young and this your first car you had expectations that weren't met. It's life and it happens. It really sounds more like minor issues and communication problems with the dealer. These can all be overcome with a lot less freaking out about it. I know, because I'm a big freaker-outer, myself! Talk with your dealer - service manager or GM. These people want you to be happy - it's their job.

OK, lets look on the bright side: Each time you go to the dealer, you get to drive 100 miles in your smart!

Feel better now?

I am sooooo lucky. Aside from the sticky shifter, mine has been faultless. Hang in there, and hold the dealer's feet to the fire if necessary.

The bottom line is, this is absolutely not normal.....I'm not even slightly satisfied with this car....
-Document everything
-Lemon Law may apply (or make lemonade)
-Consider all options (e-bay, boycott, call Dave Schembri, etc)

If lemon law comes into play, documentation is good advice but most lemon laws have to deal with an inability to repair a single specific problem (I'm assuming a "major" problem) after several attempts. If one had 25 problems with a brand new car, all fixed, the lemon laws in the states I've heard of simply wouldn't apply.

I bought a 2009 Smart Passion last week and the only problem I have experienced is that the check engine light came on. So I took it to the dealer and the mechanic told me that a valve or something has to be replaced. He said he had to do it on quite a few of them and that maybe its like a common thing. He had to order the part though because they were out of stock. Other then that I haven't noticed anything bad. I let the computer do the shifting even if its a lil wierd feeling sometimes.

Owning a car is much like being in a marriage. Someone may look at a married couple and say, "How could he/she put up with that ??" Only the couple know their limitations and what would reach their breaking point.

Same with owning a car. Some may see several problems as a non-issue, some may see one problem as a deal breaker. The level of seriousness is determined by those involved.

I know if I had to cross my fingers each time I twisted the key, I would get discouraged quickly.
