SRS Light on, then entire SRS module "dead"

I had my car in for service Mid-January (2year), went on vacation, and within 2 weeks of REALLY cold temps, my SRS came on last weekend.

When I went to Eurocar / Smartcar Annapolis, they couldn't even talk to the SRS module. They wanted to know who installed the MDC Cruise Control, and EVERYTHING else (I have MDC, Ultragauge II, and a bluetooth receiver). All self-installed.

They are suspicious that "something" has drained the battery too much, so they have to remove them all before they can re-test the SRS module to figure out why the light came on. Of course, I installed everything over 6 months ago, so I can't see why it would have done anything. They are also pulling the battery & replacing it.

Has anyone else had problems with this, with any of the components I've described?

And, is there a quick way to "disable" the MDC, other than pulling all of the components? Just undo the speedo shunt?

The manufacturer does not support any of your add-on devices so the dealer techs are not familiar with them. They wish to make sure they will not interfere with a diagnosis of the SRS system, even if they are not related to the SRS fault.

One should not leave a car for more than a few days in very cold weather without a battery maintainer attached. Batteries do not like cold weather and electronic devices do not like low voltage.

A year ago January, I had a SRS light. The dealer in Orlando said there were multiple voltage related codes. They said the aftermarket battery was causing it. The battery had been installed by the original SC Bloomfield (Michigan), the flagship dealer under Penske, as part of the 2.0 upgrade. I never had an issue with it. They sold me a new battery and cleared the codes. The car has the Area 451 Cruise, aftermarket nav and speakers, and I also have an Ultragauge, although I disconnected the UG before the service because I figured they'd need to use the OBDII port. They never said a word about any of it.
That lasted a week before the SRS light came back. This time they found the SRS module had failed and needed replacing. It wouldn't communicate with the computer. That fixed it.
Of course they credited me with the labor from the previous visit, but I got to eat the cost of the battery, which by the way, failed two weeks ago. It was replaced under warranty by the Clearwater dealership.
