As you may recall, the first rally spot was decided on by drawing a line across opposite corners of the 'Midwest' region and they crossed close to the Dells. After a few years, the decision was made to move to another location. Since I lived in Red Wing, it was easier for me to set it up here. It was then planned on moving it to Iowa by some of our Iowa members for 2014 (we skipped 2013 so it wouldn't compete with the national event) Hopefully they are working on the event plans soon as it does take time to set everything up.

If we don't hear anything soon, maybe it will be moved to another location?? time will tell. I would be glad to assist in the planning, etc but it is much easier if it is hosted by someone who either knows the area or lives close by. I have not heard anything yet.

Actually, it wasn't that scientific. I had it there because there were lots of cheap and nice hotels (Indian Trails Motel), many things to do...and a drive in movie; all within 10 miles of each other. The Dells is a "Can't Go Wrong" place to host an event.

The map in question....

Not very scientific either, just a couple of arbitrary lines that look about right. Iowa seems to fit the bill.

Yup, now go from the northwest corner to the southeast corner. then from the northeast corner to the southwest corner. It hits right around the west side of Wisconsin. We then figured the Dells had the hotels and other attractions if we had a large turnout (which we did)

Iowa does look good with your lines drawn that way tho...

But like you said, not scientific, just a good guess. Maybe we need a dart board/map

St. Louis is a great place for a car event as we have some great curvy "mountain" type roads. You would think that we would not have that type of roads...but we do! Wineries, recreation, and many attractions... a lot of them are free. I was so impressed with the "pavilion" at the Dragon that I am contacting motels and hotels in the area to see if any of them have something like that.

An inexpensive laid back event with great curvy roads to tour, an easy fun rallye, a small car show, a few car games, and some serious "pavilion time" sounds like a good two or three day event.

What is the best time of the year to avoid conflicts with other smart events like OTD?

Just looking into it...no promises.
Mick

Previous Midwest rallys were in early June, as were the 2010 Nationals that replaced the Midwest event that year. Sort of traditional at this point.

I loivein central Illinois, so here would be great, lol. But I could do pretty much any of the neighboring States. The mountains and the east coast require a lot more planning with my schedule than something in the Midwest, so I'd be up for it anywhere within 3-5 hours drive of me.
