I installed my disc switch a little higher on the horizontal part of the panel so it would be out of harm's way of feet. I used one 30 in cable and one 36 in cable if i remember. I also helped a friend install his in the same spot.

I've towed my Smart about 50,000 miles without a battery switch. Other owners I've talked to in campgrounds don't use one.

Aux. rakes

Do you have aux brakes on your towed car? If so, is there any interference with the ESP system?

I also installed my cutoff switch in the horizontal part of the panel, with the switch handle pointing towards the front of the car so it wouldn't get accidentally knocked to the off position.
