453 - Tire Options for 16 inch Sport Rims

Here in North America the sport package comes with Continental Pro Contact TX tires.

They appear to be the only tires we can get in the 205/45/R16 (rear) and 185/50/R16 (front)

Continental Tires -ProContact? TX

Having said that, I just saw in this review for the 2017 Cabrio some other tires called Continental Eco Contact 5 that were mounted to the sport rims.

ContiEcoContact? 5

Please reply here if you know of any other tires that might fit our 16 inch sport rims.

The EcoContact 5 appears to be a "summer" tire. Not designed for winter driving. This may be a problem for some.

Check Tirerack.com.
There are 21 tires for the rear, only one (the TX) for the front...The Conti DWS-06 are highly rated and slightly cheaper than the TX...

A lot of us back in the 451 days upgraded all four tires to the same size (I went with 185/55's). Perhaps we can do something similar here assuming that the front wheel well is large enough to prevent rubbing.

I have a new 453 Brabus and after much checking and searching found the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 to be the best for noise and performance.

The sound level in the 453 is unusually hight and these seem to tame that a bunch.

Sizing for the brabus will be 195/50ZR16 front and 205/4517 rears.

When I bought the car I changed from the stock tires to by winters from my 450 smart and the sound level dropped by 50%. The issue turned out to be the rear tires which while they are Yokohama they are a hard rubber and a block pattern which doesn't do anything well.

I will post an update once I get a few miles on them.

If you want pure performance there are some great autocross tires available that will fit the Brabus or you can go to 16" rims all the way around and then the selection of performance tire is even better. The limitation is the very low profile 17 on the Brabus which is supposed to be 205/40-17 but all the choice have high road noise which is already a problem in the 453.

If road noise is not an issue for you there are several choices but I feel IMHO that the Continentals are the best overall choice.
Disclaimer: I have always run Yokohama S-Drives on my other cars and my Smart and they are great on and off the track. But on the 453 I found the road noise too high with Yokohama.

Feedback on your findings is appreciated.

Contis are always noisy. I'll be looking at other brands and juggle the sizes a little.

With no location in your profile, I'll just ask do you need tires that have grip/ see light snow at temps below freezing?

I run Yokos as well (summer tires - 300 UTQG) and find them far quieter than the stock contis.

On those stock 8Y Spoke rims, I run 195/45ZR16 Front, 205/45/ZR16 Rear

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...earDiameter=16

I've run the stock size 185/50/16 Front with Yokohama Blue Earth-A and 225/35/17 Rear Yokohama S-Drives (both 300 UTQG) and they are quieter than the stock contis as well.

The stock contis are 500 UTQG for comparison.
If you need a winter set, do consider this 195/45R16 size (22.9" Diameter) and get four of the same.
At this size you have Vredestein Quatrac 5 (All Season with 3PMSF, 400 UTQG) and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ (All Season, 500 UTQG).

My findings are the softer the tire (lower UTQG), the quieter the ride is.
If the car sees snow, go with the Vredestens.
